WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Midwestern State Mustangs received the news they were waiting for on Tuesday evening. The Mustangs made the NCAA Division II Tournament and will host a South Central Regional match.
The Mustangs (16-6) are the number two seed in the region and are paired against number three seed St. Mary's (18-4). The match is set for Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the MSU Tennis Center.
Midwestern State is making its first trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament since 2011 and its 13th appearance in the tournament.
"They've done a great job this season and now they're getting the reward from it," said MSU coach
Scott Linn. "We play on these courts a lot and we'll be ready to play. We're excited to host."
Midwestern handed the Rattlers a 7-2 defeat in MSU's first match of the season. It was St. Mary's first loss of the season.
The other South Central Region bracket has three teams, with fourth seeded Tarleton State meeting fifth seeded Western New Mexico, with the winner to face top-seeded Abilene Christian. Both of those matches are at ACU.
The winner of the MSU-STMU match and the winner of the ACU bracket advance to the national round of 16 at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex in Surprise, Ariz., starting May 8.
