Mustangs ranked second in South Central Region

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Midwestern State Mustangs remain second in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Rankings released Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Committee.
 
The Mustangs are 13-5 overall this spring, 12-4 in Division II play and 9-2 in region, are behind Abilene Christian (6-3 in Division II play, 5-0 in region) in the committee ranking.  St. Mary's (8-3 in DII, 7-3 in region) of the Heartland Conference is in third, with Tarleton State (7-5 in DII, 7-3 in region) in fourth.  Cameron (12-3 in DII, 12-2 in region) is fifth, while the Heartland's St. Edward's (5-4 DII, 4-2 in region) is sixth and Dallas Baptist (9-7 DII, 8-4 in region) is seventh.
 
The Mustangs host Tarleton State on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., and St. Edward's on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the MSU Tennis Center to close the regular season.
 
This is the second of three regional rankings before the committee selects the five participants from the region for the 2013 NCAA Division II Tournament on April 23.  The conference tournament winners of the Lone Star, Heartland and Rocky Mountain Athletic are awarded automatic berths, with two additional at-large teams being selected.
 
Regional matches will be played at the top two seeds from April 27-30, with the bracket winners advancing to the Sweet 16 in Surprise, Ariz., May 8-11.
