WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State senior
Colby Meeks was named the Lone Star Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for his strong play over the last week.
Meeks, a senior from San Angelo, Texas/Central, led Midwestern State to a pair of wins and going 4-0 for the week himself as the Mustangs beat No. 29 Florida Southern 6-3 and No. 14 Abilene Christian 5-4. MSU is 8-4 overall, 1-1 in Lone Star Conference play.
He teamed with
Luke Joyce as MSU's No. 1 doubles team to beat FSC's Emanuel Lueber/Benoit Paradis 8-5 in Lakeland last Thursday, then added a win over Paradis at No. 2 singles, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
On Wednesday, Meeks/Joyce beat ACU's Jason Proctor/Borja Cortes 9-8 (7-5) at No. 1 doubles before downing Proctor at No. 3 singles 0-6, 7-5, 6-3. The two points help MSU defeat Abilene Christian for the first time since May 5, 2006.
MSU continues a four-match home stand this weekend. Friday the Mustangs face Texas-Tyler at 3 p.m. and follows with Northwest Missouri State Saturday at 1 p.m, both matches at the MSU Tennis Center.
