WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State senior
Luke Joyce was chosen as the Lone Star Conference Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week by the LSC office for his performance last week.
Joyce led the Mustangs to a 3-0 week as a team with a wins over Dallas Baptist and East Central and the NJCAA's No. 2 ranked Tyler Junior College. Joyce went 2-1 at No. 1 singles for the week and 3-0 at No. 1 doubles with teammate
Colby Meeks.
The senior from Johannesburg, South Africa, beat ECU's Stefan Stein 6-1, 6-2 and DBU's Phillip Allen 6-1, 6-1. The only match he dropped was to ITA Small College Super Bowl champion and NJCAA No. 1 ranked Adrien Berkowicz of TJC 6-4, 6-4.
With Meeks, the team beat ECU's Julian Caminos/Victor Blasco 8-4, DBU's Bradley Hilliard/Phillip Allen 8-2 and TJC's James and Mitch Martell 8-6.
Midwestern opens Lone Star Conference play on Friday morning against Incarnate Word. First serve at the MSU Tennis Center is 10 a.m. The Mustangs also play Saturday at 10 a.m. when Oklahoma Christian closes out the homestand.
