WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State freshman Kayla Casey was selected as the first Lone Star Conference Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for 2013 for her outstanding play in the seasoning weekend.
 
Casey picked up a pair of points to help lead No. 38 Midwestern State to a 7-2 win over No. 48 St. Mary's in the season opener for MSU last Saturday. 
 
Kayla teamed with sister Kendra to beat St. Mary's Joanie Bryant and Ariana Saldana 8-4 at No. 3 doubles, then won individually at No. 3 singles over Valentine Lambrechts 6-4, 7-5.
 
Midwestern State host three matches in both men's and women's play this weekend at the MSU Tennis Center.  The Mustangs host Tyler Junior College on Friday at 2:30 p.m.  On Saturday, Dallas Baptist comes calling at 2 p.m., with MSU welcoming East Central (Okla.) at 6 p.m.
