WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Midwestern State Mustangs won the men's doubles and women's No. 2 singles as they hosted the Midwestern State Invitational over the weekend at the MSU Tennis Center.
MSU freshman Kayla Casey led the Mustangs women by claiming the No. 2 singles flight with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-3 win over Cameron's Elvira Scholles in the final.
The men's team of
Jarrod Liston and Kyle Davidson won the men's doubles with an 8-3 triumph over Collin County's Brady Bornstedt and Donovan McSeveney.
The Midwestern duo of newcomers
Lauren Pineda and Madeline Schorlemmer advanced to the women's doubles final, but fell to the Tyler Junior College team of Nelo Phiri and Fausty Pietersz 8-3.
The Pineda/Schorlemmer tandem reached the final by defeating MSU teammates
Taylor Coffman and
Kendra Casey in the semifinals 8-3.
In the other flights on the men's side, Collin County's Bohrenstedt won the No. 1 singles flight with an win over doubles teammate McSeveney. The No. 2 singles were taken by Cameron's Angelo Lencioni and the CU's Dean Weigelt defeated Collin's Kyle Funk 6-3, 6-1 for the No. 3 flight.
In the women's No. 1 singles, TJC's Pieteresz beat Cameron's Julia Puckhaber 6-1, 7-5, while the No. 3 finals were not played between Cameron's Antonia Moberg and teammate Florencia Tornero.
Both the Midwestern men and women are in action this weekend at the ITA South Central Regional hosted by Abilene Christian at the Eager Tennis Pavilion in Abilene.
