WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State's Travis Veitenheimer and Kiara Jordan were amongst the list of 20 student-athletes named Lone Star Conference Scholar Athletes Monday afternoon.
 
The duo was also named prestigious winners of the Marie Morgan Award last month which is presented to the most outstanding student-athlete at MSU in regards on-court/field performance as well as for exemplary participation through the community.
 
Veitenheimer earned a starting position on the offensive line before sustaining an arm injury in the season's third game. His continued participation aided the Mustangs to a perfect 10-0 regular season and to its second LSC title over the past three seasons. The Mustangs' offense led the nation in both scoring and total offense.
 
The 6-5, 275-pound senior from Windthorst carries a 3.86 grade-point average as a pre-medicine major. Veitenheimer, who was named the school's top biology student as a junior, posted the highest GPA among male student-athletes in each of his four years at MSU.
 
Jordan, a four-year volleyball letterwinner, became the school's first NCAA Division II volleyball All-American last fall as a second-team Daktronics selection.
 
The 5-4 senior from Gilmer, Texas was twice named Lone Star Conference Libero of the Year and was an all-league selection three times.
 
Jordan has been a member of the MSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for the last three years, attended the NCAA Division II Leadership Academy, volunteered to collect food for the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank, worked with Wichita Falls Habitat for Humanity and coached numerous free youth volleyball clinics.
 
Each academic year, the LSC presents a Scholar-Athlete Award to one male and one female student-athlete at each member institution. These student-athletes are selected as representatives of the outstanding accomplishments in athletics, scholarship and leadership that are on display at each LSC campus every year.
 
To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have participated at least two years in their sport and must have exhausted their athletic eligibility.
