Lindsey Holcomb and junior
Luke Joyce have been honored with the Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship/Leadership Award for the NCAA Division II South Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Holcomb, a senior from Rider High in Wichita Falls, was named All-Lone Star Conference in doubles this past season. She completed her career this year for the Mustangs with 75 career victories.
Joyce, a junior from Johannesburg, South Africa, is a two-time All-Lone Star Conference performer in singles. He's posted 72 career victories so far at Midwestern.
The award recognizes outstanding individuals in all divisions at the regional and national level. The award, which dates back to 1982, goes to NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and junior college men's and women's players who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.
It is named after the late Arthur Ashe, the former NCAA Champion at UCLA who went on to become black player to win the singles championship at Wimbledon, the US Open and Australian Open. He was also the first black player ever selected to the US Davis Cup team.
By winning the regional award, Holcomb and Joyce are eligible to win the national award.
