Mustangs move up to 8th in final AFCA Top 25 regular season poll

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State rolled ahead one more spot to No. 8 in the final regular season American Football Coaches' Association Coaches' Top 25 released Monday afternoon.
 
The Mustangs (9-1) rolled up 470 rushing yards to blast West Georgia 35-17 to claim their ninth consecutive win in the regular season finale Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
 
Midwestern, which has won Lone Star Conference championships in three of the last four seasons, hits the road to face Great Lakes Valley Conference champion Indianapolis (Ind.) Saturday afternoon at Key Stadium. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. (Central Time).
 
The Greyhounds moved to No. 18 in the poll coming from behind to defeat Urbana (Ohio) 31-24 Saturday afternoon.
 
All six playoff qualifiers out of rugged Super Region Four received a ranking in the final regular season poll.
No. 1 Colorado State-Pueblo and No. 4 Ashland (Ohio) received first round byes while No. 16 West Texas A&M travels to 20th-ranked Chadron State (Neb.).
 
No. 19 Missouri S&T (10-1) is the highest ranked team not willfully advancing to the NCAA II postseason. In fact, the Miners are the lone one-loss squad to not qualify to compete for the 2012 NCAA II national championship.
 
Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) and New Mexico Highlands received votes.
 
Midwestern State received mention in 82 of the last 83 polls dating back to the 2006 season.
