WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State's
Chauncey Harris and
Keidrick Jackson combined for 280 rushing yards to lead the 11th-ranked Mustangs to a 51-28 win over Eastern New Mexico Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.
MSU has won seven consecutive games since suffering a season opening setback at Tarleton State. The win sets up a showdown with West Texas A&M, which won its eighth straight game by a score of 52-28 Friday night at West Georgia.
Harris rushed for a career-high 155 yards on 15 carries including a pair of touchdown runs (21, 20) while Jackson delivered his fifth 100-yard performance of the season running for 125 yards on 16 carries with a pair of touchdowns.
The game was nip-and-tuck throughout the opening three quarter before the Mustangs'Â defense force consecutive three-and-outs and ENMU turned the ball over on downs in three series after the Greyhounds pulled to within 28-21 on a 25-yard strike from Wesley Wood to Dylan Metzger with 3:24 to play in the third quarter.
The defensive surge allowed MSU to score the next 23 points of the contest as the Mustangs substituted freely over the final quarter of the game.
Backup quarterback
Jake Glover led the Mustangs on a five-play 67-yard drive culminated by Harris' first scoring run of the game -- a 21-yard burst around left end to give the Mustangs a 35-21 lead.
Greg Saladino tacked on a 38-yard field on the next possession before Harris finished off a four-play, 57-yard drive with 8:07 to play in the fourth quarter to give MSU a commanding 45-21 edge.
Third-string quarterback
Shavodrick Beaver added another 42-yard on his lone carry of the game before Eastern New Mexico scored on the final offensive play of the game.
MSU quarterback
Brandon Kelsey completed 10-of-13 passes for 120 yards with two touchdowns, while rushing for 16 yards on eight carries.
Senior wide receiver
Jared Freeman had four receptions for 34 yards and a touchdown, while sophomore tight end
Mark Strange made three catches for 65 yards.
Wood completed 11-of-18 passes for 181 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 81 yards on 26 carries.
The Mustangs produced their fourth 500-yard total offense performance of the season including 350 on the ground and 166 through the air.
Eastern New Mexico fell to 2-6 on the season and to 1-5 in league play.

Keidrick Jackson joined former standouts Dominic Rhodes (1999-2000) and Daniel Polk (2006-2007) with consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. Jackson rushed 1,044 yards in 2011 and now has 1,026 this season.
- Jackson moved into third place on MSU's all-time rushing moving past Ross Harrison (2,418 from 2003-06) and Marcus Mathis (2,433 from 1007-10) and now has 2,499 career rushing yards. He needs 42 more to pass Dominic Rhodes to move into second. Rhodes ran for 2,541 yards in 1999 and 2000.
