WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State moved ahead two spots in the American Football Coaches' Association Division II Poll released Monday afternoon.
The idle Mustangs, who jumped to No. 17, open the regular season Thursday night against New Mexico Highlands of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Kickoff is for 8 p.m. (Central Time) from Perkins Stadium in Las Vegas, N.M.
The poll reflected little change after a light slate of games during the collegiate season's opening week.

The Lone Star Conference leads the way with six teams receiving votes in the ranking led by No. 6 Abilene Christian followed by West Texas A&M at No. 8, Texas A&M-Kingsville at No. 14 and MSU at No. 17 while Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Commerece are receiving votes.
No. 1 Northwest Missouri State headlines the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association's (MIAA) contingest of five teams followed by Washburn (Kan.) at No. 9, Nebraska-Omaha at No. 12 and Missouri Western at No. 18, while Central Missouri is receiving votes.
The Great Northwest Athletic Conference's lone representative, Central Washington, slipped eight spots to No. 13 after falling to No. 3 Minnesota-Duluth 35-10 in the first weekend of the season.
